    ARIZONA HUNT UNIT 7-WEST MAP

Hunt Unit 7 WEST offers the “High Country” ponderosa pine forest, with vast meadows, and the rolling hills of the pinyon juniper belts that meander to the grasslands.

This highly sought-after unit lies within the Kaibab South National Forest along with small pockets of private land and is famous for its Kendrick Mountain trophy elk.  Other big game species includes mule deer, pronghorn antelope, black bear, mountain lion, and turkey. There are also terrific opportunities for small game such as bobcat, coyote, fox, cottontail rabbit, squirrel and more.

Unit 7 West also offers two Historic Routes; the historical Route 66 and the Beale Wagon Trail. Route 66 aka Main Street of America, was one of the original highway systems of America that helped popularize the West.  Some original segments are within this unit along its southern border. Pure American Nostalgia!

The heart of this unit contains the historic Beale Wagon Road which was developed in 1857 by explorer Edward Fitzgerald Beale for a trade route that would start form Fort Smith Arkansas and continuing West to California.

Additionally, Hunt Unit 7 West offers winter recreation for cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and other nordic activieis.

Due to primitive roads combined with weather conditions, access demands 4x4 off-road vehicles in order to safely venture throughout the unit.  There are numerous reasons why some road restrictions exist within National Forests.  Please be mindful and respect the protection given to the land and resources by these closures and restrictions.

Public lands are subject to leasing and other changes.  It is advised to obtain local and forestry information from a Forest Service office or other public land agency. Contact the appropriate land management agency for the most current information.

The publisher has exerted its best efforts to portray, render and compile current information. However, due to recent natural and other degradation, closures, or new additions of roads and trails, or land ownership changes, absolute accuracy cannot be guaranteed.  The user must supply the experience, common sense, knowledge and physical conditioning necessary for safe outdoor travel.
